When coming to the Central Coast of California, Hearst Castle is one of the most popular spots to visit – and one of the most visited places in California in general!
Perched atop the Santa Lucia mountains with stunning panoramic mountain and ocean views, the castle itself brings guests back in time to an era of opulence and showcases California’s history through a variety of educational, fun, and interactive tours.
Named by TIME Magazine as one of the greatest places to visit in the world, it is no surprise that we’re all itching for Hearst Castle to re-open and resume offering tours.
Now that the COVID restrictions have been lifted in California, is Hearst Castle open?
Unfortunately, Hearst Castle still remains closed to visitors as of July 2021.
During a major storm that fell on California’s Central Coast in January 2021, Hearst Castle discovered some structural issues with the main road that takes guests up the mountain to the castle itself.
They have been working to assess the extent of that damage and then will be able to begin repairs.
When Will Hearst Castle Re-Open?
Unfortunately, there’s no clear date for when the castle will be able to host visitors again.
Current estimates are that it could take up to 9 months to complete needed repairs, but there is no way to know for sure how long these will take.
We just remain hopeful that they will go quickly!
