Sensorio was amazing. Learned so much about wine from Lars @ToastTours

We arrived on a Friday and after checking into our hotel we traveled to Sensorio. Sensorio proved to be everything I expected. It is gorgeous, fabulous and so fantastical. One word of caution – wear layers, gloves, hat and scarf – I froze as after 70 degree day it turned to 30 degree evening. Lars from Toast Tours picked us up at our hotel the next morning. Gave us a detailed description of the itinerary before we set off. On the drive to the Hearst Castle, we learned about the history of the area, micro climates and a lot about wine tasting (all information was fascinating). Hearst castle was interesting and unique, but what made this tour fabulous was Lars. He stopped on the way to Hearst castle so we could see zebras frolicking in the wild. He stopped so we could take picturesque views of the ocean in the mist. After Hearst castle he gave us a lunch option and we chose the ocean view – best choice ever. Then Lars stopped so we could see elephant seals – herds of them. We then visited 2 boutique wineries for wine tasting and bought some wine. We finished this full day with a visit to Tin City – a very unique concept. We did some more wine tasting and had some sheep milk ice cream. I could not recommend this tour any higher. Lars and his love and knowledge of wine and Paso Robles are the key. We loved every minute!! One last comment – our hotel Oxford Suites was fabulous. We had a great buffet breakfast, a reception in the evening with up to 2 glasses of wine or bear, plus soup/salad bar (all included). The facilities were excellent. We used the gym daily, the hot tub, sauna and steam bath nightly which made for a VERY relaxing getaway.

Amazing Down to Earth Tour Guide

Lars was an amazing down to earth tour guide, he added so much to the group with his enigmatic personality! He offered great advice on an individual basis for choices to make as well as a history through out. Our group was small enough for us to all interact as well as not get lost in the hubbub and brouhaha of a well soaked in wine crew!!! You can tell that Lars and Kristina have well planned everything out as well as having years of experience with being on both sides of the tourism industry!!! Also, Hearst castle was just an amazing cherry on top, with Zebras in the wild along our drive!

Central Coast Hearst Castle & Wine Tour from Los Angeles to San Francisco

My mother and I took the Central Coast Hearst Castle & Wine Tour from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Toast Tours put together the package of Amtrak train tickets, a hotel stay in Paso Robles, and the Hearst Castle and winery tastings. Communication throughout the whole thing was great, but the excellent personal service started the moment Lars picked us up from our hotel in Paso Robles. He’s a very personable young man who is obviously passionate about what he does. He gave us a bit of the local history as we made our way to Hearst Castle. The tour van was a nice new vehicle with comfortable seating, and there was a cooler with water bottles. As Lars was telling us about the zebras that still roam the fields from the days of William Randolph Hearst, he coincidentally spotted some and pulled the van over so we could get out and take a better look. After touring the castle, which was amazing, we made our way to the first winery in the beautiful countryside. After our first of 3 tastings, Lars put out a nice spread of cheese, hard salami, and crackers. That was a welcomed surprise as we headed to the second tasting. The first two tastings were prescheduled by Lars but the last one in Tin City was left up to the group to decide. There were breweries and cider distilleries to choose from in case you had had enough wine. Our group chose another winery and I’m glad we did because we got to see a little bit of the process that is involved with making the wines. We had purchased wine along the way and Lars gave us a box for shipping it back. All in all it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this small, local company and its tours.
